Is True Detective Season 1 Worth Watching?
I have never particularly cared for Matthew McConaughey, but his performance in the first season of True Detective has changed my opinion of him. He puts forth one of the best performances that I have watched in a television series in years. His strong performance as a Louisiana homicide detective investigating a cult like murder, and Woody Harrelson’s to a lesser extent, make this a must see. True Detective does not follow the standard format of a police procedural; instead the series starts of with McConaughey and Harrelson discussing a case they had solved twenty years prior with the FBI. Throughout the first six episodes, it largely focuses on the duo’s past and the final two episodes finally look at why the detectives are being interviewed to truly reveal the overarching plot of the series. The show does a great job of keeping you guessing who the murderer is and why they were committing the murders. While the ultimate reveal is not perfect, the final pursuit of the murderer by McConaughey and Harrelson is tense and wraps up the show nicely by incorporating the mystic elements that had been alluded to throughout the season. Definitely check this out.
