Is Altered Carbon Season 1 Worth Watching?

The first season of Altered Carbon is an interesting science fiction take on the future of the human race. In the Altered Carbon world, human consciousness can be digitally transmitted between bodies, called “sleeves”, and the ultra wealthy truly have become immortal. This advancement has allowed humans to start colonizing other planets, but the class disparity between the haves and have-nots creates a rebel faction, of which the main character, Kovacs, is a part. The best thing about the first season of Altered Carbon is its world building. The writers do a great job of fleshing out the world that Kovacs wakes up to after being released from prison. Where Altered Carbon stumbles is in its execution of the story. The main premise is Kovacs investigating the murder of one of the ultra wealthy, but his past is eventually tied in and by second half of the season, the murder is treated as an afterthought. This led to a show that went in a completely different direction than the original premise. I think it would have been better to focus on one premise from the start instead of continuously intertwining multiple plots throughout.
