Is Trover Saves the Universe Worth Playing?
Trover Saves the Universe may be one of the funniest video games I have ever played. I must point out that while the game is designed for VR, it can be played without it. The story follows an alien (that cannot leave its chair), called a Chairorpian, who controls an eyehole monster, Trover, who fights an omnipotent being, Glorkon, who stole the Chairorpian’s dogs to shove into his eye holes. While this short blurb sounds nonsensical, this is a must play for anyone who is a fan of Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland. To defeat Glorkon you will explore a variety of alien planets to collect power ups. While the game itself is quite easy, the joy of playing really lies within the writing. Some NPCs have over 5 minutes of dialogue that does not repeat. I would often hold off on continuing to see what outlandish things they would say. Additionally, the game flawlessly lampoons video game tropes. For example, many NPCs are just annoying enough so that you might attack them and Trover will exquisitely shame you for your barbaric behavior. However, if you do not enjoy crude and meandering humor, you are unlikely to enjoy the game.
Rating: B- A very good video game but elements of may be genre specific as to your enjoyment.
