Is The Knight Before Christmas Worth Watching?
The Knight Before Christmas is a formulaic romantic comedy that completely eschews any semblance of reality. This movie follows the story of Sir Cole as he is transported from Norwich England in 1319 to the middle of Ohio in 2019 to complete his quest to become a “true” knight. This quest is inevitably falling in love with Hudgens’ character. The movie takes so many liberties that I was completely taken out of the experience. Why is Cole transported from England to Ohio, how can Cole read modern English, how can Cole speak modern English, how is Cole not more blown away by modern technology, how does Hudgens afford a lovely house that also has a guest house nicer than most Americans’ own house on a teacher’s salary in Ohio? None of these points are ever addressed. Additionally, the movie’s plot is paper thin. It just meanders as you follow Cole for four days as he tries to become a “true” knight until enough interactions with Hudgens cause them to fall in love. There is almost zero conflict in this movie, and it is utterly boring. Unless you live and die by Hallmark-esque romantic comedies, this is a hard pass.
