Is The Invisible Man Worth Watching?

The Invisible Man in a modern twist on an old monster, with some caveats. In our newest iteration, the monster is really the man, with his invisibility being just a tool. An abusive boyfriend and optics savant, our titular character discovers a way to fake his death and become invisible so that he can torment the woman who left him. Instead of a naturally invisible man who wears bandages to be seen, we have a normal guy who wears a high-tech suit to become invisible. This results in a lot of lingering shots of empty door frames and corners; not something that is engaging to watch. The psychological thriller aspect of the film comes from his manipulation and isolation of his target, making her friends and family believe she is insane. To her credit, she figures out what’s going on much faster than anyone reasonably would. In the end, this movie is meandering and nonsensical. The bad guy’s plan seems to have no real motivation other than just passively torturing this woman. There’s no apparent endgame. But the movie’s biggest sin is that it’s simply unengaging. It’s boring.

Rating: D - Uninteresting and unsatisfying
