Is The Circle Worth Watching?
I can’t say enough about the Circle. Keeping it to 200 words will be tricky. This show took me for a ride. This is a reality tv show about a group of strangers who can only interact through a closed social media platform called the Circle. All communication is done in text format through the profiles they have set up for themselves. The profiles include photos, bios, and other info, however they are under no obligation to be honest in them. Some people are 100% real. Some people exaggerate. Some people straight up lie. Then at the end of each day, they all rank the other players by popularity and some people are removed, the goal being to be the last man standing. It is an incredible social experiment about bonding and friendship and social posturing and trust. I was absolutely fascinated in seeing whether the truthful or the liars prospered in the short and long term, and what kind of people made it the farthest. Eventually it boils down to this: What kind of person would you reward with your support? A cool stranger? A friend? A weak enemy? And when - if ever - does that calculation change?
Rating: A - A fascinating social experiment
