Is the Boy 2 Worth Watching?
Brahms: The Boy 2 is a sequel to a forgettable movie from a few years ago called The Boy that should have stayed on the shelf. The original movie (spoilers) was about a woman hired to babysit a doll that seemed to be alive until it’s revealed that there was actually a fully grown man living in the walls of the mansion, the twist making clear that there was never anything supernatural occurring in the movie. It was a good twist that was really the only thing setting the movie apart from its contemporaries. However, the sequel goes out of its way to try and retcon that thesis. The doll is actually the channel for some dark entity that drives those around it to insanity and violence. It features a cast of flat performances and no emotional stakes. I’ll be honest. I’m awful at horror movies. I love them, but I startle easily. I jump, I shout, and I often curse; but I sat through this entire film with a flat stare, unmoved. It was a dull and often predictable affair that was mostly just a waste of time.
