Is Rim of the World Worth Watching?
Netflix original movie Rim of the World is another found-family “four kids alone can save the world” movie in the same vein of Super 8 and Earth to Echo, but fails to deliver on a lot of what those movies had to offer. The beginning is a chaotic mess of new characters with insane personalities that do not mesh in any way. However, as the invasion begins and the kids embark on their mission to take a key given to them by a crash-landed astronaut to NASA JPL (chaos, remember?) I have to say I did get sucked into the adventure. They cross Los Angeles while being pursued by a six-legged alien and bond as a group, which I’m a sucker for. The movie is equal parts adventure, comedy, and horror as some of the deaths are rather gruesome and unexpected. Between the language and brutality this isn’t a kids’ movie, however it’s also too silly to be for adults. I’m not really sure who this was made for, although I think the mid-20’s ratings on Rotten Tomatoes seem overly harsh.
