Is Love Life Worth Watching?

The HBO original series Love Life follows a woman names Darby over several years of her life as she forms and deepens relationships; romantic, platonic, and familial. Anna Kendrick stars as Darby Carter and does an excellent job of showcasing a person growing and learning from her mistakes. I’ll say that at the beginning, I wasn’t initially gripped by this show. Released 3 episodes at a time, I really only continued to the second set because I was watching with a group of friends. That said, by the end of the second set of 3, I was hooked. There are relationships of every kind here to explore (unrequited love, missed connections, abusive behavior, platonic friendship, and even mother-daughter), and at only 10 episodes it packs a lot in. Each episode features a different person’s relationship to Darby, and so each episode feels fresh and brings something a little new to the table. Otherwise, I would say that this series doesn’t do anything particularly new. Its showcase of different relationships with all the time skips involved felt a little bit like a more stretched out Definitely, Maybe, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth a look.
