Is Jessica Jones (2016) Worth Reading?

I really do not have any background on Jessica Jones and know very little about the character but I still really enjoyed this run by Bendis. The entirety of the series spans 18 issues and can be easily divided into three arcs: Uncaged; The Secrets of Maria Hill; and Return of the Purple Man!. Of the three arcs I think Uncaged starts out the strongest. Jessica Jones is released from jail and has hit rock bottom. Knowing very little about the character, I was still able to glean everything I needed to know. The only real downside of Uncaged is that it seemed to be building to a larger story but ends abruptly, and I did not love the ending. As a fan of the urban fantasy P.I. genre, I enjoyed that The Secrets of Maria Hill leaned more into Jones’ P.I. side. Return of the Purple Man! really did not have any emotional impact on me as it seemed to derive a lot of its story on background that I did not have, but I cannot fault the story for my deficiency. Overall, I enjoyed this and will seek out more runs involving Jessica Jones.

Rating: B- Good. If you have Marvel Unlimited, definitely give this a read.
