Is In the Tall Grass Worth Watching?
In the Tall Grass is a Netflix Original adaptation of a Stephen King novella. It follows the stories of two families who are lured into a field of high grass with supernatural abilities. The field has the ability to move anyone inside it around in both space and time. If you lose sight of your partner for even a moment, you’ll find that they’ve been shifted a hundred feet away. It’s a creepy premise about a field that’s intent of keeping you lost inside it. But eventually the movie introduces travel through time where people are inside the field months before they entered it. And on top of that, there are parallel timelines going on where characters that have died aren’t actually completely dead after all. That’s where the wheels come off. What’s supposed to be a narrative about choices and their consequences becomes a tangled mess of plot lines that no one could possibly follow. Throw in a monolithic and possibly sentient stone that drives people into a homicidal rage and you have altogether too much nonsense for one movie. There was a lot of potential here, but none of it was realized.
