Is Disenchantment Season 2 Worth Watching?
The end of the first season of Disenchantment hooked me. I thought the show had decided to enter into more of serial format instead of the adventure of the week format they had mostly adopted from season 1. Season 2 starts off strong, with Bean following her mother into a new kingdom and ending with an adventure to hell. Unfortunately after this short arc, Disenchantment mostly enters back into the old format where episodes were not really tied together. While I don’t mind this format, I think its adoption hurts Disenchantment. Similar animated shows, such as Adventure Time, are successful with adventure of the week episodes because the number of episodes per season also allows for an overarching plot. With Disenchantment’s 10 episodes spanning 22 minutes, they don’t have the time to take that approach. The best episodes of the season relate to the character development linked to the fallout from season 1. I think a more serialized approach would help with the season’s quality consistency issue. Regardless, the humor is still funny, and if you enjoyed Season 1 you will like season 2.
Rating: C- Disenchantment starts off strong, picking up where season 1 left off, and then middles through the rest of the season until the final episode
