Is the Mandalorian Season 1 Worth Watching?
When the Mandalorian was announced, I thought it was nothing more than a cash grab by Disney. However, I am happy to report that I was wrong. The Mandalorian is arguably the best thing to come from the Star Wars universe this year. The show follows its titular character, only known as “Mandalorian,” as he starts out hunting a bounty. When one of his targets turns out to be a baby Yoda, the show turns into a tale of the Mandalorian trying to protect the child. Portions of this season definitely wear its inspirations from the Kurosawa movies, The Magnificent 7, and Lone Wolf and Cub on its sleeves. I think this is actually why I enjoyed the show so much- it had a weird mix of space-opera meets samurai-western. The season itself starts out strong and gets weakest right around episode 5 before ramping up again for the season finale. I am now excited for the future of the Star Wars’ universe outside of the main movies under Disney. After being disappointed by Rise of the Skywalker, I hope Disney looks to why the Mandalorian works so well and incorporates some of its DNA into the main movie series.
